Play. Explore. Learn.

Homely childcare in the heart of the village

We are a Pre-School open to children from 2 – 4 years. Our practice is open and inclusive to all. The Pre-School also provides support to children with additional needs, liaising with external agencies to ensure appropriate support is given. Laura is our SENCO at Pre-School.

We are a parent-led charity operating as a not-for-profit organisation. While we maintain a close proximity and friendship with Silkstone Primary, we operate independently and are not officially affiliated with the school, with many of our children moving on to attend many of the other local schools.

Delivering high quality Early Years care and education

We treat every child as an individual, getting to know them and their family. We then tailor activities to help each child meet our curriculum milestones, while having fun and following their interests.

The most important period of our children’s lives: the early years

At Pre-School we aim to offer a friendly home from home environment where all children can feel happy, flourish, and reach their potential.

Our small team of caring professionals are always available to chat or answer messages from families to ensure we are working in partnership to give children the best start in life.

An individual learning experience

Transition Sessions

We offer a structured staged transition for all children starting Pre-School.

We invite all children to attend for 3 sessions of an hour each, but we recognise all children are individuals and settling sessions can be tailored to meet all needs.

The transition sessions allow children to get to know the room, meet the practitioners, and for carers to ask any questions they may have. This approach allows children to become settled and comfortable.

2 – 3 Year Olds

We offer a range of fun resources and activities as we help them to develop in the prime areas of learning.

These are:

* Communication & Language
* Personal, Social and Emotional Development
* Physical Development

We have core books and rhymes specifically aimed at our younger children.

3 – 4 Year Olds

We start to prepare our children for their transition into primary school.

We continue building on their prime areas whilst also providing activities which will help them develop their literacy and maths skills, increase their knowledge of the world around them, and also to encourage the children to experiment with arts and design.

We promote independence and invite the children to participate in more adult-led learning activities as they prepare for school.

Our Golden Rules

We encourage all children to follow our golden rules at Pre-School.

We Are Kind
We Listen
We Are Honest
We Look After Toys
We Are Gentle

My Son has been in Silkstone Pre-school since September 2024.
This setting has brought he on leaps & bounds with his confidence, socialising, learning, sharing and most importantly his independence. The staff are all so kind & supportive and provide a welcoming environment for the children to play & learn.
He goes part-time & has really thrived this past year particularly in getting him ready for starting school in September.
We will be very sad to say our goodbyes to all the team in July.

Daily Activities

Designed to help children reach their potential

Circle Time

We use small group circle times daily to help children develop their personal, social and emotional skills. These are tailored to children’s ages and stages of development and encourage the children to become confident in sharing their own thoughts and opinions in small groups.

Continuous Provision

We follow a daily routine as children learn best through routine and repetition.

We have daily mark-making, malleable and sand play, construction, a small world section, a home corner, dressing up, and a reading area.

Our small world resources are rotated to fit in with children’s current interests and we have a role play area that is changed regularly. We also do lots of special seasonal activities.

Healthy Eating

Our 3rd in Charge, Kaitlyn, is responsible for ensuring healthy eating at Pre-School. We regularly send home guidance and information for parents to help them with providing their child the best nutrition possible. Our provided daily snacks adhere to government guidance around healthy eating in early years settings.

Outdoor Play

Our garden area is adjacent to our main playroom, which allows the children to free-flow and choose to learn outdoors. The outdoor provision aims to mirror the indoor, with many of the same areas translated into the outdoors. Our balancing equipment and physical activities promote the development of gross motor skills.

EYFS

Pre-School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory requirements, which we have use to create our own curriculum for teaching the children.

We have a wide range of policies and procedures to ensure we meet all welfare requirements. Our curriculum has been developed to meet all the learning requirements.

We share the curriculum with our parents as children join and they have the opportunity to meet regularly with their child’s key person to discuss their child’s development.

What our parents say

My daughter has been attending here since April 2024, she loves spending her days here. She’s made new friends and has been cared for by some kind and caring professionals. In her words the best thing about preschool is “friends, drawing, painting and activities (making chickens)”. We will be sad to leave when it’s time for big school.

More than just a Pre-School

We are a home away from home!
